Techological Disadvantages

Without a doubt, technology was made to make people´s life way easier and simple. To be able to be in contact with persons in another part of the work, avoid going to the office because you are able to work from home and get all the information you need and even more by just giving a click, are just some of the advantages technology has provided to our everyday life. However, not every aspect of this powerful tool is positive. There are some "cons" we must take into consideration about technology.

In society, for example, technological advances could break physical contact with people around us and natural environment, For example, some people would prefer to stay home watching T.V or may be chatting with some friends instead of going out and hang for a while. On the other hand, in the environmental aspect, the development of technology usually represents the creation of new devices, which also increase the consumption of objects that are not always significant to us. Having the latest model of an specific smart phone, for example, is useless and this increases the technological waste in our societies.

I personally believe technology makes our life style much more simple then it was before. However, sometimes we have to really think about if all those objects we are consuming and worth at all. We must also remember the more we have does not mean we are better than other people. It is also important to consider that electronic waste has a dramatic impact in environment, and must also take this into consideration when buying something new.

Bad Eating Habits

Living in a period where our daily routine is full of work, appointments, meetings, home duties and stress, it is very difficult to pay attention to our personal habits, especially if we are talking about what we eat and how we do it. As simply as it might seem to be, eating habits have major impacts in our health if we do not develop good practices. According with studies made most and worst bad habits when eating we can mention a top three that includes the following aspects:

1. Skipping breakfast: This meal is known as the most important one during the day. However it Is usually avoided by most of the people because of the lack of time we usually have at morning.  “Skipping breakfast disrupts your metabolism, causing you to burn fewer calories. So, if you are trying to lose weight, skipping breakfast is not a good idea”.

2.    Fast food: This unhealthy habit might be the most popular one. This because fast food restaurants are everywhere you can imagine. On the other hand, because of the routine we are involved in, sometimes it is easier to pay little money for something faster to take. The unlimited consumption of fast food can end up in major health diseases such us cholesterol, heart attack and even morbid obesity.

3.    Eating late at night: Having meals before going to bed gets digestion process a little more difficult. It is important to mention that it also causes sleeping difficulty, without forgetting how bad this habit can be when trying to lose some weight.

As a personal recommendation for people who practice some or all the habits mentioned previously I suggest them to try it step by step. Waking up a little earlier can work for those who avoid taking breakfast. Other aspect to take into consideration would be to eat some fruit or meals easy to prepare. According to fast food, it is okay to have this kind of meals sometimes. However, if people would like to avoid it at all, thinking that preparing food at home is way healthier and cheaper can be a good reason to quit this habit. Without a doubt, people who work out, eat fruits, vegetables and drink water often have better health condition than those who do not. It can be a little hard to leave all those bad habits mentioned above; however it is up to us to start from the beginning. At the end the only ones who will be affected will be us.

Charitable Organizations

When it is about helping the others we usually think about donating thousands of dollars to big organizations or may be giving food and clothing to those who has less facilities than us. I agree with the fact of doing charity this way, however, even though these might be the most popular ways to do so, they are not the only ones. Have you ever think about giving an opportunity to work to people without studies and talents that could not be yet discovered?

This is what “Salon do Encontro” does. It is an organization located in Betim, Brazil whose most important value is to believe in people´s potential, no matter where they are from but their will to learn and grow up professionally. This particular organization hires people who never had the chance to study. In this place, they learn to create crafts by their one, which at the end will be sold to the public and all the money collected will be distributed in salaries and materials for a little school that this organization owns, where kids from poor families learn to read, write, use technology and also develop artistic abilities.

Since I live a little far from this organization, the way I could help with it is letting people know about it and how successful it is now in Brazil. On the other hand, here in Costa Rica we could develop a similar project, where people who never had the chance to work, because of their academic experience, can do something from themselves and for the others at the same time. Without a doubt study is the basis when we talk about work, however, there are some other aspects we need to take into consideration such us ability, motivation, passion and the will of becoming a better human being.

Here is a little video where you can see what is done in this particular place, I hope you like it!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzg_C-zWciA

Sleep Disorder

It is a fact that we live in a very "fast" world. If we take a look to our personal routine, we might notice that we are always in a hurry trying to be on time, going from one place to another and trying to make things as fast as possible in order to have more free time to do thing we really enjoy. Each of us has personal habits and very specific routines. However, at least one time in our life, we have all already had problems to fall asleep. It has also been proved that at lease 30% of America´s population suffers of sleep disorders. The most common one might be "insomnia" which is known as the lack of sleep during the night. According to the experts, "this is often caused by stressful situations, pain, digestion problems, anxiety, caffeine drinks abuse and some medications usually taken to control high blood pressure, birth control and even asthma."

As a personal advice, I would recommend a person with sleep disorder to eat in a healthy way. We can include more vegetables and fruits to our personal diet, instead of fast food and carbohydrate drinks. On the other hand, exercising at least two or three times a week, we can have better results when trying to sleep at night. Another useful advice is to try to resolve our personal issues during the day, this will help us to control our anxiety and worries during the night. Sleeping is as important as eating healthy and working out, it is the time we spend resting after a day full of work.
